Pittore di genere, nature morte e paesaggi, Victor Dargaud si specializzò rapidamente nella rappresentazione delle vedute di Parigi. Particolarmente preciso nella raffigurazione architettonica, Victor Dargaud mostrò anche un grande interesse nel riprodurre la vita dei parigini dopo gli anni 1870 e la guerra franco-prussiana. Victor Dargaud partecipa regolarmente al Salon degli Artisti Francesi dal 1873. Dargaud espone nature morte e vedute di Parigi, Marsiglia e altre città, in composizioni ben strutturate dove domina l'elemento architettonico. Victor Dargaud realizza anche durante i suoi viaggi alcune vedute molto interessanti di Firenze. In 1884, his painting “The Statue of Liberty”, today located in the Museum Carnavalet in Paris knows a striking success during the Salon. This painting is a real document on the workshop of Bartholdi situates on street of Chazelles, during the conception of this monumental statue. Victor Dargaud also represents the City hall of Paris by 1883-1885.
