Peter Birmann
Maestro suizo del paisaje
Peter Birmann fue un pintor suizo. Comenzó su formación con su padre Rudolph, cantero, y luego continuó en los talleres de varios artistas suizos: Rudolf Huber el joven en 1771, August Kaufmann en Porrentruy, en el taller Wagner en Berna, con Marquard Wocher y finalmente con Johann Ludwig Aberli. En 1777 emprendió un viaje a Roma, donde permaneció entre 1781 y 1790. Allí trabajó en el estudio de su compatriota y pintor Abraham-Louis-Rodolphe Ducros y luego se encontró al frente del taller del grabador italiano Giovanni Volpato. Durante esta estancia, conoció al poeta alemán Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Se especializó en dibujos de paisajes y grabados. Su hijo Samuel Birmann (1793-1847) también es un pintor de paisajes.
