皮埃爾-馬里·貝勒是一位畫家和版畫家,出生於里昂。他在巴黎學習後,於1867年以一幅題為《一位波希米亞女子》的畫作在沙龍首次亮相;隨後展出了他描繪集市生活的作品。 Beyle enjoyed painting ordinary people and can be described in painting terms as a Social Realist. He exhibited “La Toilette de la Femme Sauvage” in 1869; “La Toilette du Général Jacko” in 1872, and from 1877-1878 he exhibited a series of paintings completed in Algeria. In 1881 Beyle received the bronze medal at the Salon with a coastal scene entitled “Pecheuses de Moules au Pollet”, this was also the debut year of exhibiting at the Grafton Street Galleries in London; in 1887 he won a silver medal with another coast scene “Un Sauvetage à Dieppe” and in 1900 he exhibited “The Workers of the Sea” (Les travailleurs de la Mer) at the World Exhibition. 1865年至1870年間,他為巴黎的許多期刊繪製漫畫,以補貼收入。他最後一次在沙龍展出的作品是1900年的《希望》。貝耶爾的創作深受荷蘭海牙畫派畫家的影響,尤其是約瑟夫·伊斯拉爾斯(1824-1911);但他的作品也可以與國際藝術家群體相提並論,包括英國的喬治·克勞森爵士(1852-1944);同樣來自荷蘭的菲利普·洛多維克·雅各布·弗雷德里克·薩迪(1837-1904)和伯納德斯·約翰內斯·布洛默斯(1845-1914),以及他的同胞朱爾斯·巴斯蒂安·勒帕熱(1848-1884)。
