Roelof Jansz. van Vries
Pittore paesaggista olandese
Roelof van Vries fu un pittore olandese dell'Età dell'Oro. Secondo il RKD, è noto per i suoi paesaggi nello stile di paesaggisti più famosi di Haarlem come Jacob van Ruisdael, Meindert Hobbema, Jan Wynants e Philips Wouwerman. Firmava la maggior parte delle sue opere come Rvries. È considerato la stessa persona del pittore Roelandt van Vries, che entrò nella Gilda di San Luca di Leida nel 1653. Entrò nella Gilda di San Luca di Haarlem nel 1657. Si sposò ad Amsterdam nel 1659, all'età di 28 anni, e Reynier Hals fu il suo testimone. L'anno della sua morte è sconosciuto, ma la sua ultima opera firmata risale al 1681, ed è elencato come deceduto in un elenco dei membri della gilda redatto da Vincent van der Vinne nel 1702, quindi morì prima di quella data. Le figure presenti nelle sue opere sono state talvolta attribuite ad altri pittori.
