塞繆爾·S·卡爾是一位美國田園和風景畫家。他原籍英國，在切斯特的皇家設計學院接受訓練，於1862年左右移居美國（具體為紐約市，他後來於1865年在那裡學習機械製圖）。據記載，他從1879年到1907年居住在布魯克林，在此期間，他發展出一種詭異的繪畫風格，其中形狀被反覆重複、翻轉和旋轉，同時仍然保持逼真。他與姐姐安妮及其丈夫約翰·邦德一起住在布魯克林。他從未結婚。 他經常在自己的作品上署名「S.S. Carr」。
