Figure éminente du mouvement Art Déco et l'un des principaux précurseurs de l'art abstrait moderne, Serge Gladky était un architecte, designer et artiste graphique français, actif dans les années 1920 et 1930. Il était principalement renommé pour son style cubiste, et ses estampes abstraites décoratives se caractérisaient par une synthèse créative et harmonieuse de formes géométriques issues principalement de la nature. Although inspired by natural motifs, his ornamental patterns were imaginative abstract interpretations rather than literal depictions of these subjects. In 1928, Gladky published his most well known work, Nouvelles Compositions Decoratives, a collection of vibrant, fanciful designs of animals, plants, fish, birds, and insects.
