Shen Mengjian
Yuan-realistische schilder
One of his surviving works, 'Peonies and Butterflies,' is considered a treasure among flower-and-bird paintings. The painting is highly realistic, with a clever composition and fine detailing. It balances motion and stillness, bringing the subjects to life, and gives people a sense of elegance, charm, and grandeur. This work carries on the tradition of Song Dynasty court-style painting while incorporating the lively and playful spirit of scholar-painting. It blends the precision of meticulous brushwork with the freedom of expressive ink painting.
