Sir Godfrey Kneller

Sir Godfrey Kneller, primer baronet (nacido Gottfried Kniller), fue el principal pintor de retratos en Inglaterra durante finales del siglo XVII y principios del XVIII, y fue pintor de corte de los monarcas ingleses y británicos desde Carlos II hasta Jorge I. Sus obras principales incluyen El converso chino (1687; Colección Real, Londres); una serie de cuatro retratos de Isaac Newton pintados en distintos momentos de la vida de este último; una serie de diez monarcas europeos reinantes, incluido el rey Luis XIV de Francia; más de 40 «retratos Kit-Cat» de miembros del Kit-Cat Club; y diez «bellezas» de la corte de Guillermo III, para emparejar con una serie similar de diez amantes de Carlos II pintada por el predecesor de Kneller como pintor de corte, Sir Peter Lely.
