英国バロック宮廷肖像画家
ゴッドフリー・ネラー卿（初代準男爵、本名ゴットフリート・クニラー）は、17世紀後半から18世紀前半にかけてイングランドで最も著名な肖像画家であり、チャールズ2世からジョージ1世に至るイングランドおよびイギリスの君主たちの宮廷画家を務めた。彼の代表作には、『中国の改宗者』（1687年、ロンドン王室コレクション所蔵）、アイザック・ニュートンの生涯におけるさまざまな時期を描いた4枚の肖像画シリーズ、フランス王ルイ14世を含むヨーロッパの現職君主10人の肖像画シリーズ、キットキャット・クラブ会員の「キットキャット肖像」40点以上、そしてウィリアム3世の宮廷に仕えた「10人の美女」の肖像がある。これは、宮廷画家としてネラーの前任者であったサー・ピーター・リーが描いたチャールズ2世の愛妾10人のシリーズに対応したものである。
