Thomas Beach era un ritrattista britannico che studiò sotto Sir Joshua Reynolds. Beach nacque a Milton Abbas, nel Dorset, nel 1738, e mostrò una forte predilezione per l'arte fin dalla tenera età. Nel 1760, sotto il patrocinio della famiglia di Lord Dorchester, divenne allievo di Sir Joshua Reynolds, studiando contemporaneamente alla St. Martin's Lane Academy. In seguito si stabilì nella alla moda località termale di Bath, dove i suoi ritratti e gruppi di ritratti, solitamente di piccole dimensioni, erano molto richiesti. He painted the actress Sarah Siddons several times. In his first portrait of her, painted in the winter of 1781–2, she is shown seated, in everyday clothes, holding a book. He depicted her again later in 1782, in one of his more ambitious works, an allegorical portrait inspired by Milton's Il Penseroso, in which she represented the personification of Melancholy. In 1787 he painted Mrs. Siddons and John Kemble in the Dagger Scene in Macbeth, of which the actress wrote, "My brother's head is the finest I have ever seen, and the likest of the two". Fu membro della Incorporated Society of Artists e contribuì alle sue esposizioni dal 1772 al 1783. Espose alla Royal Academy ogni anno dal 1785 al 1790, ma non di nuovo fino al 1797, quando viveva a Strand-on-the-Green, vicino a Kew a Londra, e inviò un ritratto del Principe di Galles. Diversi ritratti di Beach furono incisi in mezzotinto da William Dickinson, Valentine Green, Richard Houston e John Jones. Beach morì a Dorchester, nel Dorset, il 17 dicembre 1806.
