色彩豊かな写実的イタリア風景
トーマス・ハートリー・クロメックはイギリスの芸術家でした。クロメックは1809年8月8日に生まれ、版画家ロバート・ハートリー・クロメックの息子でした。彼はウェイクフィールドのイーノック・ハリソン校で教育を受け、その後フルネックのモラヴィア校とウェイクフィールドのグラマースクールに通い、最終的にハリソン校に戻りました。 彼はウェークフィールドの肖像画家ジェームズ・ハンターから美術の初歩を学んだが、1826年にリーズへ移り、才能豊かな画家ジョセフ・ローズの指导下で風景画を学び、また解剖学的デッサンを独習した。 1830年、彼はイタリアへ赴き、巨匠たちの作品を研究することを決意した。彼はベルギー、ラインラント、スイス、フィレンツェを経て、ついにローマに到着し、そこで優れたデッサンと丁寧な色彩表現によってすぐに注目を集めた。1831年から1849年まで、クロメックは2度の短いイングランド訪問を除き、イタリアおよびギリシャの主要な建造物や絵画的な風景を訪ねて描くことに時間を費やした。 1860年、彼は水彩画家の新協会の準会員に満場一致で選出され、その後ウェイクフィールドに隠退し、長くて苦しい病の末、1873年に死去した。彼の作品は主に王室および個人コレクションに所蔵されており、その色彩の美しさと自然への忠実さが高く評価されている。
