美国政治漫画之父
托马斯·纳斯特是一位德裔美国漫画家和社论漫画家，常被誉为“美国漫画之父”。他曾批评民主党众议员“老板”特威德及坦慕尼协会的民主党政治机器。他的著名作品包括创作了现代版圣诞老人（基于传统的德国人物圣尼古拉和圣诞老人）以及为共和党（GOP）设计的政治象征——大象。 与普遍看法相反，纳斯特并未创造山姆大叔（美利坚合众国联邦政府的男性化身）、哥伦比亚（美国价值观的女性化身）或民主党的驴子形象，但他通过自己的艺术作品使这些象征广为人知。纳斯特于1859年至1860年以及1862年至1886年期间与《哈泼斯周刊》杂志合作。
