托馬斯·納斯特
美國政治漫畫之父
托馬斯·納斯特是一位德裔美國漫畫家與社論漫畫家，常被視為「美國漫畫之父」。他曾批評民主黨眾議員「老大」特威德以及坦慕尼協會的民主黨政治機器。他著名的創作包括現代版聖誕老人（基於傳統德國人物聖尼古拉與聖誕老人）以及為共和黨（GOP）設計的政治象徵——大象。 與普遍看法相反，納斯特並未創造山姆大叔（美國聯邦政府的男性化身）、哥倫比亞（美國價值觀的女性化身）或民主黨的驢子形象，但他透過自己的藝術作品讓這些象徵廣為人知。納斯特於1859年至1860年以及1862年至1886年期間與《哈潑斯週刊》雜誌合作。
