Victor-Jean Nicolle

Victor-Jean Nicolle fue un artista francés. Nicolle nació en la ciudad de París. Reveló su talento para las composiciones paisajísticas a una edad temprana cuando, en 1771, como alumno de la Escuela Real de Dibujo, ganó el Premio de Perspectiva. Adquirió una pasión por representar la arquitectura de las ruinas clásicas y, en pos de esta pasión, emprendió un viaje por el sur de Europa: Italia (Venecia, Bolonia, Florencia, Nápoles y Roma) así como Francia. Fascinado por Roma, realizó dos viajes allí, de 1787 a 1789 y de 1806 a 1811, para dibujar los edificios. Las composiciones de Victor-Jean Nicolle incluyen obras como El Puente Nuevo visto a través de una ventana circular del Louvre (poco después de 1808), que ilustra la vista tomada desde una de las ventanas circulares situadas detrás de la columnata de la fachada este del Louvre, en París, de ahí el título de su obra. Su obra constituye un registro histórico y topográfico significativo de los entornos urbanos.
