以明治战争版画闻名
东京版画设计师和画家。被认为是杨洲周延（1838-1912）最优秀的学生，其作品涵盖多种题材，从美人画（biinga）到描绘现代化东京的名胜风景画（开化绘），包括国内工业博览会的场景、天皇与皇后的肖像，以及中日战争和日俄战争的战争版画（senso-e）。他或许以战争版画最为闻名。在中日战争（1894-1895）期间，信一创作了大量杰出的三联画，并因设计陆海战场景而声名鹊起。他还制作了石版画。
