ウィリアム・ハミルトン
シェイクスピア画と詩の挿絵
ウィリアム・ハミルトン（1751–1801）はイギリスの画家および挿絵画家でした。ハミルトンはロンドンのチェルシーで生まれましたが、アントニオ・ズッキとともにイタリアで数年間旅し、働きました。彼は当初建築製図家として訓練を受けましたが、すぐに演劇の肖像画や舞台場面に移行しました。ハミルトンは1784年にロイヤル・アカデミーの準会員となり、1789年には正会員となりました。ハミルトンはシェイクスピアの戯曲のエピソードを描いた絵画や詩の挿絵で非常に有名になりました。彼はジョン・ボイデルのシェイクスピア・ギャラリー、トーマス・マックリンの聖書、およびロバート・ボウヤーの英国史のために作品を制作するよう依頼されました。これらの作品は人気のある版画で広く複製されました。
