윌리엄 해밀턴
셰익스피어 극화와 시 삽화
윌리엄 해밀턴(1751–1801)은 영국의 화가이자 일러스트레이터였습니다. 해밀턴은 런던 첼시에서 태어났지만 안토니오 주키와 함께 이탈리아에서 몇 년 동안 여행하고 일했습니다. 그는 처음에는 건축 도면 제작자로 훈련받았지만 곧 연극 초상화와 극장 장면으로 전환했습니다. 해밀턴은 1784년에 왕립 예술원의 준회원이 되었고, 1789년에는 정회원이 되었습니다. 해밀턴은 셰익스피어 연극의 에피소드를 묘사한 그림과 시의 삽화로 매우 유명해졌습니다. 그는 존 보이드엘의 셰익스피어 갤러리, 토마스 맥클린의 성서, 그리고 로버트 보이어의 영국사를 위한 작품을 제작하도록 위임받았습니다. 이러한 작품들은 인기 있는 판화로 널리 복제되었습니다.
