윌리엄 러셀 버치는 영국의 미니어처 화가, 에나멜 공예가, 풍경 판화가이자 디자이너였습니다. 버치는 워릭셔에서 태어났으며, 어머니 앤(혼전 성씨 러셀)과 의사 토마스 버치의 아들이다. 그는 어린 시절을 워릭에서 보냈으며, 보석상 토마스 제프리스와 조슈아 레이놀즈 경에게 사사했다. 에나멜 화가 헨리 스파이서는 버치에게 에나멜 회화 기술을 가르쳤다. 버치는 1781년부터 1794년까지 로열 아카데미에서 에나멜 초상화를 전시했다. 1785년, 그는 왕립 예술 협회로부터 메달을 받았다. 판화가로서 그는 잉글랜드에서 『데리스 드 라 그랑드 브르타뉴』(Délices de la Grande Bretagne)로 가장 잘 알려져 있으며, 이 작품은 노리치 및 기타 지역의 고대 건물을 묘사한 36점의 판화로 구성되어 1791년에 출판되었다. 1794년 필라델피아로 이주한 후, 그는 길버트 스튜어트가 그린 조지 워싱턴 초상화의 복제본을 포함하여 많은 사람들의 초상 에나멜 작품을 제작했다. 1800년에 제작한 필라델피아 풍경 판화 시리즈는 매우 인기가 높아 추가로 세 가지 판이 더 발행되었다. 윌리엄 버치는 미국의 초상화 및 해양 화가인 토머스 버치의 아버지였다. 그의 타자기 원고 자서전은 펜실베니아 역사학회에 소장되어 있다. 그는 필라델피아에서 79세의 나이로 사망했다.
