William Thomas Horton

William Thomas Horton est né à Bruxelles le 27 juin 1864 et y a passé la majeure partie de son enfance ; sa famille a ensuite déménagé à Brighton, où il a fréquenté la Brighton Grammar School. Il a ensuite travaillé pour un architecte de Brighton et a étudié la construction de bâtiments dans une école d'art locale. Horton was one of the Smithers People, a number of artists sponsored by Leonard Smithers (1861–1907). Some starry names were in his orbit, including the writers Oscar Wilde and W. B. Yeats. In 1896 he launched The Savoy, a culture magazine that counted Aubrey Beardsley as art editor and for which Horton was a frequent contributor.
