Xavier Mellery
Pittore e scultore simbolista belga
Xavier Mellery era un pittore simbolista belga. Figlio di un giardiniere del Palazzo Reale di Laeken, Mellery lavorò inizialmente con il pittore-decoratore Charles Albert. Frequentò l'Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts a Bruxelles dal 1860 al 1867, tra i cui professori vi era Jean-François Portaels. Mellery vinse il Prix de Rome e viaggiò in Italia, dove studiò dipinti del Rinascimento. Tra le sue opere figura Il Rondò delle Ore. Mellery progettò le statue di tutte e 48 le professioni storiche nel giardino del Petit Sablon a Bruxelles.
