Zhang Shengwen(张胜温) (12th century), from the Dali Kingdom during the Southern Song period, has unknown birth and death dates and worked as a court painter for the Dali Kingdom. His most famous surviving work is a painting created in 1180 (the fifth year of Shengde in the Dali Kingdom) called 'Painting of Buddhist Images by Zhang Shengwen of the Dali Kingdom during the Song Dynasty,' also known as the 'Zhang Shengwen Scroll' or 'Scroll of Buddhist Images.' This scroll is made on paper with color and gold, measures about 16.36 meters in length, and consists of 134 sections. It depicts themes such as Emperor Duan Zhixing of the Dali Kingdom worshipping Buddha, various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and sixteen local rulers, totaling 628 images. The scroll is now housed in the National Palace Museum in Taipei and, together with the Northern Song 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival,' is referred to as a 'peerless treasure of both the north and south.'
