Yuan Daoist painter of landscapes and horses
Zhang Yanfú(张彦辅), also known as Liu Yi(六一), was a painter during the Yuan Dynasty. He was of Mongol ethnicity and learned Daoism from the Zhengyi Daoist(正一道士) Wu Quanjie(吴全节) (courtesy name Chengji(成季), nickname Xianxian(闲闲)). The Taiyi Dao(太一道) he followed merged with the Zhengyi Dao in the late Yuan period, earning him the title of Zhenren (True Man). At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, he was famous for his landscape, horse, and bamboo-and-rock paintings. During the reign of Emperor Shun of Yuan, he worked as a court painter, creating murals for the palace. His surviving works include 'Thorn Bamboo and Secluded Birds,' and he also painted 'Fulang Horse,' though it has been lost.
