Zhao Fu
Maître des scènes fluviales dynamiques
Zhao Fu(赵黻), also known as Zhao Fu(芾), was a painter of the Southern Song Dynasty, though his exact birth and death years are unknown. He was active during the Shaoxing period (1131–1162), came from Jingkou (now Zhenjiang, Jiangsu), and lived by Beigu Mountain along the Yangtze River. He grew up alongside the Yangtze and had a deep understanding of the changes in the river scenery. His painting style was close to that of the Li Tang school, and he was good at painting figures, landscapes, rock formations, and the flow of river waves. During the Yuan Dynasty, Xia Wenyuan mentioned in "Illustrated Literary Treasury" that his works "had spirit and brush strength." In the Ming Dynasty, Zhang Chou pointed out that he often didn’t sign his surname on paintings, making them easy to confuse with Mi Fu’s works.
