Yuan painter of horses and Tang-style ladies

Zhou Lang(周朗), with unknown birth and death years, styled Bogle(伯高), also known as Binghu Huayin(画隐), was a painter during the Yuan dynasty. He lived in the time of Emperor Shun. He was good at painting horses and also skilled in painting ladies. The ladies he painted had full and dignified faces, flowing clothes, graceful poses, and the brushwork on the clothing was fine and elegant, carrying the lingering charm of Tang dynasty art. In July of the 2nd year of Zhizheng (1341), France (referred to as Fulangguo) sent a celestial horse, and Zhou Lang was asked to draw it. He painted the 'Painting of France Presenting a Horse,' with He Xi Si writing the inscription. Copies of this painting still exist. Among his surviving works, only 'Du Qiu Tu' is known today.
