Falstaff by Adolfo Hohenstein, 1894

Look at this giant, slumbering figure! Adolfo Hohenstein's 1894 poster for Verdi's opera 'Falstaff' perfectly captures the titular character's boisterous, wine-loving nature. The massive, stylized red letters of the title loom over the rotund, bearded man who has clearly had one too many drinks, slumped over in his chair with a jug still in hand. It's a brilliant example of Art Nouveau graphic design, using bold typography and expressive illustration to advertise the French version of the famous comic opera.
