A wedding feast in an inn
Adriaen van Ostade loved painting the rowdy, unpolished lives of Dutch peasants, and this chaotic tavern scene is a perfect example of his signature style. Instead of a fancy royal banquet, we get a crowded, dimly lit room where villagers are drinking, arguing, and celebrating a wedding with zero regard for personal space. The artist uses dramatic lighting to highlight the messy joy of the gathering, proving that 17th-century peasant parties were just as wild as modern ones, just with less electricity and more wooden barrels.
