The Sixth Knot. Interlaced Roundel with Seven Wreaths
1506
Albrecht Dürer, a master of the Northern Renaissance, channeled his fascination with complex geometry into a series of mesmerizing knotwork designs around 1506. Here, a deep black circle serves as the stage for seven intricately woven white wreaths, their endless loops twisting and turning in a hypnotic, mathematical dance. The corners are anchored by dark, leafy shapes that echo the central tangle with their own elaborate knots and curling vines. Far from mere decoration, these interlaced puzzles were designed to challenge the viewer's eye to trace the unbroken, infinite paths.
