Carl von Linné, 1707-1778, botanist, professor by Alexander Roslin, 1775

Here is Carl von Linné, the Swedish botanist who gave us the system for naming every plant and animal on Earth. Painted by Alexander Roslin in 1775, he looks quite pleased in his powdered wig and fancy coat with gold buttons. Spot the tiny white flower on his lapel? That's the twinflower, his absolute favorite plant, which he even used to name his own genus! The star medal on his chest is the Order of the Polar Star, showing just how much the King of Sweden appreciated his scientific rockstar status.
