Saint Bonaventura
Here we see Saint Bonaventure caught in a moment of heavenly brainstorming. Murillo dresses him in the humble grey robes of a Franciscan friar, yet adds the red cords and cape of a Cardinal, showing his rise through the church ranks. With a quill held high and eyes fixed on the divine, he looks ready to transcribe a message from above—fitting for a theologian known as the 'Seraphic Doctor.' The bishop's hat sitting on the table nearby hints at his power, but his bare, sandaled feet keep him grounded in his vow of poverty.
