The Fox's Tale
1910
Step right up to 1910 Paris, where Benjamin Rabier advertises his holiday gift book 'Le Roman du Renard' with this charming poster. It features a family of anthropomorphic foxes outside a thatched-roof cottage, looking like characters straight out of a fable. The father fox stands on his hind legs, seemingly mid-conversation, while the mother and two curious cubs look on. Rabier was a master of animal caricature—he actually drew the original logo for The Laughing Cow cheese!—and this colorful design for publisher Jules Tallandier captures the whimsical spirit of early French children's literature.
