Is Your Journey Really Necessary
Imagine trying to buy a train ticket and getting confronted by an armed soldier asking if you really need to go anywhere. That’s the vibe of this 1915 British propaganda poster by Bert Thomas. Commissioned by the Railway Executive Committee, it uses a stern, rifle-toting Tommy to guilt civilians into staying home so trains could transport troops and supplies. The pointing finger is a direct nod to the famous Lord Kitchener recruitment posters, making every unnecessary trip feel like a betrayal of the war effort.
