Fontaine Desaix
Charles Percier's architectural blueprint outlines the grand 'Fontaine Desaix,' a monument erected in Paris's Place Dauphine to honor General Louis Desaix, a hero who died at the Battle of Marengo. The design is pure Neoclassical drama: a towering pedestal lists his famous victories—from the Pyramids to Marengo—topped by a statue where a helmeted goddess figure crowns the general. Sadly, this tribute to a Republican hero didn't survive the return of the monarchy; the fountain was demolished in 1814, making this drawing one of the few remaining records of its majestic, water-spouting glory.
