Portrait of the Painter Oda Krohg
ca. 1885
Christian Krohg captured his wife, fellow painter Oda Krohg, in this striking profile portrait around 1885. The thick, textured brushstrokes give the piece a raw, immediate feel, highlighting her contemplative gaze against a simple, light background. As key figures in the Norwegian realist movement, the couple frequently painted each other, blending their personal and artistic lives in fascinating ways. Oda was known for her bohemian lifestyle and own successful career, making this portrait a meeting of two artistic minds.
