Palm Trees at Bordighera by Claude Monet, 1884

In 1884, Monet traveled to the Italian Riviera and completely lost his mind over the exotic light and vegetation in Bordighera. You can see his excitement in the vibrant, feathery palm fronds that burst across the foreground in wild strokes of green, yellow, and violet. Behind this tropical jungle, hazy blue mountains fade into the distance, showing off his signature Impressionist style of capturing fleeting atmospheric effects. He actually wrote letters home complaining that his current palette wasn't good enough to capture the magical colors he was seeing!
