Album of Colophons to Miniature Paintings in the Style of Song and Yuan Masters P05 by Dong Qichang

Dong Qichang, a Ming Dynasty master, loved to 'copy' the greats—but his versions were more like creative remixes than replicas. Here, he channels the monumental style of Song and Yuan dynasty painters, stacking towering, craggy mountains that seem to touch the sky. Look closely at the bottom left: tiny figures gather in thatched pavilions, dwarfed by ancient, gnarled pine trees that twist like dragons. It’s a perfect example of how Chinese scholars used the past to fuel their own creative genius, turning imitation into high art.
