Twelve Landscape Leaves on Silk P09
Dong Qichang, the late Ming Dynasty master who essentially wrote the rulebook for Chinese literati painting, lets his brush dance across this textured silk surface. The characters flow in a lively running-cursive script, showing off his mastery of ink—from bold, saturated blacks to dry, scratchy lines that reveal the speed of his hand. Two bright red seals anchor the composition, adding a pop of color to the aged beige background. Despite his artistic genius and massive influence on the 'Southern School' of painting, Dong was a controversial local landlord whose family compound was actually burned down by angry peasants!
