Les petits alphabets du brodeur Pl.12
1880
Édouard Guichard created this intricate design plate in 1880 as a blueprint for Victorian embroiderers, turning simple letters into elaborate worlds. At the top, the letters R, S, T, and L are overflowing with floral vines, while the 'L' even houses a pair of hopping rabbits. Below, a majestic stag stands proudly inside a crescent moon shape, surrounded by dense, stippled textures that would have been a challenge to stitch. These pages from 'Les petits alphabets du brodeur' show how the 19th-century obsession with nature and ornamentation made its way into everyday crafts.
