Romersk gosse. Studie
Swedish artist Edvard Perséus captured the intense, soulful gaze of a young Roman boy during his travels in Italy, likely as a quick study. The messy, windblown hair and large, dark eyes give the portrait a raw, immediate feeling that contrasts with the stiff formal portraits of the era. You can even see his signature 'Perséus Rome' in the bottom left, a badge of honor for 19th-century Scandinavian artists who flocked to Italy for inspiration and light.
