Toy Bank – Speaking Dog
1935-1942
Step right up to the carnival of childhood savings with this charming design for a mechanical toy bank! A wide-eyed girl in a bright red dress and blue bonnet sits perched on a green platform, seemingly ready to feed a coin to her loyal, brown canine companion. The bold red letters on the base proudly announce it as a "Speaking Dog," promising a delightful mechanical trick to encourage kids to save their pennies. Created by Edward L. Loper during the late 1930s, this playful piece captures the whimsical spirit of American toy design from the era.
