Marcha do exército do general Fremont através da floresta em perseguição a Jackson
1862
Edwin Forbes was an artist-correspondent who sketched the American Civil War right from the front lines, often while marching alongside the troops. In this hurried sketch, he documents General Frémont’s army trudging through a dense forest in pursuit of the legendary Confederate commander Stonewall Jackson. The loose, scratchy lines capture the fatigue of the soldiers and the rugged terrain far better than a polished studio painting ever could. You can even see Forbes' own handwritten caption at the bottom, acting like a 19th-century status update to record exactly where and when this exhausting slog took place.
