Insetos Pl. 05

Insetos Pl. 05 by Emile-Allain Séguy, 1929

Emile-Allain Séguy transforms ordinary beetles into dazzling jewels in this 1929 illustration, using bold stripes and metallic sheens that scream 1920s glamour. While scientifically inspired, these insects look more like they belong on a jazz-age wallpaper or a flapper's dress than in a garden. Séguy was famous for his *pochoir* (stencil) prints, a labor-intensive method that gave his work those incredibly vibrant, flat blocks of color. This plate comes from his celebrated book on insects and butterflies, which designers still obsess over today for its perfect blend of nature and geometric style.
