1929
Emile-Allain Séguy turns the bug world into a vibrant, geometric playground in this 1929 plate from his famous 'Insectes' portfolio. Originally intended as inspiration for textile and wallpaper designers, these four panels showcase beetles transformed into bold, repeating patterns of electric purple, orange, and deep teal. It’s fascinating to think that an entomologist created these; he was obsessed with how nature’s symmetry could fuel modern design. The bottom right panel, with its dark, rhythmic beetles, looks so much like a 1960s psychedelic poster that it’s hard to believe it’s from the Jazz Age!
