Paisagem plana
Ernst Fries captures a serene, sweeping river valley in this delicate sketch, likely done on the spot. You can see the artist's pencil lines still hovering in the sky, mapping out fluffy clouds that were never fully filled in, giving it a wonderful 'work in progress' feel. The foreground is anchored by dark, scrubby trees and rolling banks, leading the eye out to a calm body of water and distant, hazy hills. It feels like a quiet moment frozen in time, typical of the Romantic era's love for nature's vastness.
