Talamophora. – Chamberlings by Ernst Haeckel, 1904

Ernst Haeckel believed that nature was the greatest artist of all, and this plate from his 1904 masterpiece *Kunstformen der Natur* proves it. These intricate shapes aren't seashells you'd find on a beach, but Foraminifera—microscopic, single-celled organisms that build elaborate, chambered skeletons (hence the German subtitle 'Kammerlinge'). Haeckel drew these to show how biological symmetry influenced human design, directly inspiring the swirling, organic lines of the Art Nouveau movement. It’s a perfect blend of rigorous science and pure aesthetic obsession, turning tiny blobs of life into architectural marvels.
