엘베 강변의 예인선, 배경에 카롤라브뤼케
1909
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner captures the bustling energy of Dresden's Elbe River in this vibrant 1909 sketch, featuring a tugboat resting on the bank with the Carolabrücke bridge looming in the distance. As a founding member of the Die Brücke (The Bridge) movement, Kirchner rejected polished realism in favor of raw, jagged lines and bold splashes of color—notice how the bright yellow of the boat pops aggressively against the heavy, dark shadows. This quick, energetic drawing feels less like a static snapshot and more like a fleeting memory of a busy afternoon, showcasing the Expressionist desire to paint feelings rather than just facts.
