Montagne lontane nel mare
Ernst Schiess captures a serene, almost dreamlike seascape in 'Ferne Berge im Meer' (Distant Mountains in the Sea). Two prominent, volcano-like peaks rise from a calm body of water under a hazy, cloud-streaked sky, all rendered in cool shades of lavender, blue, and grey. The rough, unfinished edges of the support add a raw, sketch-like quality, suggesting this might be a quick impression captured on the spot. It's a beautiful example of post-impressionist landscape painting, focusing on mood and atmosphere rather than strict realism, inviting the viewer to imagine the salty breeze and quiet distance.
