Boy in a Tree
Ernst Schiess captures a quiet, everyday moment with loose, energetic brushstrokes in this charming post-impressionist scene. A boy perches high in the branches of a tree, seemingly reading or just enjoying the view, while a woman in a white dress stands on the grass below, gazing up at him. The vibrant, choppy greens of the foliage and the cool blue-grey sky create a serene, almost dreamlike atmosphere. It feels like a snapshot of a lazy summer afternoon, where the artist cared more about capturing the feeling of the light and the mood than painting every single leaf perfectly.
