Rue Lamark, à Montmartre
1926
Swedish architect Ferdinand Boberg captured this charming corner of Montmartre in 1926, freezing a moment where the old village feel was being swallowed by the growing city. You can see the contrast perfectly: on the left, a cozy flower stall sits under a canvas awning next to rustic houses, while a massive, modern apartment block looms ominously in the background. Boberg was famous for his extensive travel sketches, documenting architecture all over the world, and this drawing shows his keen eye for the disappearing 'old Paris' before modernization took over completely.
