Landscape – Fruit and Flowers
1862
Frances Flora Bond Palmer, one of the few female artists working for the famous Currier & Ives print shop, created this lush, overflowing feast for the eyes in 1862. She piles a marble-topped table high with ripe strawberries, juicy peaches, and a towering bouquet of tulips and roses, all set against a serene river landscape. A hummingbird zips past a trellis of trumpet vines, adding a touch of wild life to this perfectly arranged domestic scene. It's a classic example of 19th-century American lithography, designed to bring a bit of idealized nature and abundance into Victorian homes.
