Spring in Florence
Francesco Vinea transports us to a whimsical 18th-century garden where a young woman in a frilly yellow bodice and towering white bonnet leans in to smell a blossoming tree. This piece is a perfect example of the Rococo Revival style popular in the late 19th century, where artists looked back fondly at the elegant, flirtatious fashion of the past. Vinea, an Italian painter based in Florence, was famous for these charming genre scenes that feel like a breath of fresh spring air—literally!
